Limitations

There is a number of limitations when modifying checkouts in Shopify.

Shop Pay

As of April 2024, Shopify does not allow modifications to checkouts loaded via Shop Pay.

Apple Pay

As of April 2024, Shopify does not allow modifications to checkouts loaded via Apple Pay or other accelerated checkout methods.

Draft orders

As of April 2024, Shopify does not allow modifications to checkouts created via draft orders.

Some merchants rely on draft orders without even knowing it. This is usually when they use an upsell application that uses draft orders to provide customers with discounts. We recommend to change your upsell app to another one, because Shopify has since enabled developers to use discounts via a native way. Draft orders are not necessary for an upsell app.

Limit of 5 customizations

Shopify enforces a limit of maximum 5 payment customizations and 5 shipping customizations per store.

This means that if you use Payflow together with another app, the limit is shared between them. You can find all your customizations in your store settings (under Payments or Shipping).

Logo payment methods

If a payment method contains a logo, such as Shopify Payments, Paypal, Stripe or Klarna, it may not be renamed to anything else.

Payflow won’t offer you to rename them by default.

Express checkout buttons

Hiding express checkout buttons from your store checkout is only possible via Shopify settings. There is no official way for developers to hide them.

Fees for Cash on Delivery

Shopify does not natively support adding a fee on cash on delivery methods.

In Payflow, this is achieved by including the fee in your shipping rate fee and then hiding / showing only the valid payment methods.

Due to this nature, Payflow cannot be used to collect any partial fees before the order is placed. You may wish to search for another app that was built for that purpose.
